Founder

A promise to the wild

Amnesty Wildlife Refuge was born from a single, revolutionary question: Where can Florida’s wildlife truly be safe?

Watching the rapid expansion of development carve up the state’s natural habitats, Ariel Castro recognized a critical gap in conservation. While many lands were protected, few were truly free from the pressures of hunting and human encroachment.

Driven by an unwavering passion for ecology and a deep respect for native species, Ariel Castro set out to secure a sanctuary where nature could take the wheel. The vision was bold: a permanent, expanding, hunting-free haven.

Today, that vision is a 400-acre reality. Under Ariel Castro’s leadership, Amnesty Wildlife Refuge stands as a guardian against the sprawl, actively reintroducing native vegetation and providing a forever home for bobcats, black bears, and gopher tortoises.
